We offer both the traditional injection immunotherapy - allergy shots - and sublingual immunotherapy - allergy drops.
Allergic rhinitis (commonly referred to as hay fever) is a very common condition in America with 1 in 4 people affected. Our local climate, including the wind and vegetation, make allergies in Solano County even more common. As Ear, Nose and Throat specialists, we see patients on a daily basis with various symptoms and manifestations of allergy. To complete our ability to help diagnose and treat patients with disorders due to allergy, we offer a full range of allergy testing and immunotherapy, in addition to other treatment options.
Skin testing allows us to identify common substances like pollen, mold, animal dander and dust known as allergens that may be causing allergic symptoms for our patients. Common ENT symptoms include:
Nasal congestion
Clear runny nose
Sneezing
Itching of the nose and throat
Post-nasal drainage
Recurrent sinus or ear infections
Throat clearing and hoarseness
Once we identify what our patients are allergic to, we are able to offer them personalized immunotherapy. Immunotherapy may be the best way to treat the underlying issue within the immune system that causes some people to react to common allergens as though they are "foreign invaders." Other treatments for allergy address the symptoms they cause. We offer the traditional injection immunotherapy - allergy shots. This technique requires weekly visits for injections initially. In some patients, visits can eventually be tapered off to monthly.
We are also pleased to offer sublingual immunotherapy - allergy drops. This form of treatment is very safe and just as effective as injections but can be taken in the form of a liquid drop under the tongue at home. While the FDA has not yet approved this method, the World Health Organization supports it as safe and effective, and it is very widely used in Europe in place of injections.
